Running Good

Its now a little more than a year since I started this project car and it has turned out pretty good.  I still have some fine tuning to do and a few bugs to iron out but its on the road.  I can drive it.  Its stupid strong and pretty dang quick.  I haven't gotten into the secondaries on the carb yet, because I'm going to put about 500 easy miles on it before I start romping on it.

The interior looks good black.  It used to be red.  All the red plastic was dyed black.  New carpet front and back.  New upholstery on the door panels.  Autometer gauges all work...  the fuel gauge works backward for some reason.... E = full, F = empty.  I am missing a few vent covers, for defroster and corner vents.  The American Racing Products seats really hug you.  It took me a couple of days to get the sunroof cleaned up and back in with no leaks.

I loaded it up and drug it to The Exhaust Shop in Pelham Al. for Curtis Dewberry to run the pipes from the headers out the back.  They are 2.5 inch pipes with an X pipe, ball and socket unions in front of the rear diff and at the headers.  I had him do the unions in the middle to make the car easier to service... should I need to pull the trans or driveshaft, I won't have to pull the whole exhaust, just the part in the way.  The mufflers are Dynomax Super Turbos and are about as mellow as the car can be made.  You can carry on a conversation while at cruise without yelling.  Curtis did a really good job.  The bill was $470.

I ran into a problem when I first tried to start it.  Mud Dobbers had built a nest in the fuel inlet lines at the carb.  It ran but did not have enough fuel to rev above idle.  I'm glad I had the fuel gauge installed at the fuel pressure regulator.  It let me quickly diagnose the problem.  I had fuel pressure at the outlet to the carb but no fuel in the carb.  After cleaning it out, no more problems.

Under the hood, I still have an AC line to make up.  The compressor is 9 inches further forward than the original rotory motor had it located.  When done, I'll have AC and Cruise working.

Here is a video of the finished car.  Its about 5 megs and 2 minutes long.  I'd right click the link below and save it to my computer for better playback.
