May Steel Challenge

The match results are detailed and complete.  I did have to make one change in how I scored to accomodate the spreadsheet I am using.  When a shooter completes a run but has not hit all the plates, we scored him a being a plate down to all the guys who shot them all.  Kind of like being a lap down at the end of a race.  The only way he could beat someone was to have another shooter who a lap down and slower.  To get the data to sort order of finish I have to assign a value to the run with the missed plate.   A missed plate now adds 10 seconds to the time scored for that run.   10 seconds is substantial and a realistic penalty.  You won't win with misses but you are not out of the match either.

I didn't get many pictures but did burn a few minutes of video at the match.

This 4.5 minute video file is 7 megs and plays fine.

Below are the match results for the May 2007 Steel Plate Match held on May 12, 2007.   We had a really good turnout with several new faces.  I hope you new guys are hooked like I am on shooting these steel plates.  We changed up the match format in an effort to reduce what it costs to shoot.  We gave each shooter one run on each plate array instead of four runs.  We gave one alibi run to rerun a stage that the shooter had a problem on.  The alibi run traveled with the shooter.  Once he left stage 1 and started stage 2, he could not use the alibi on the previous stage.   Once it was used, he could not get another alibi for any other stages.  Stage 4 is by far the hardest stage with all small plates so a strategy had to be used.  Do you keep a slow run on one of the easier stages to save the spare run for #4 or use it now?  It was a twist on the game and made it more fun.  Shooting 20 plates for one run instead of 80 plates saves the shooter money on ammo expenses for the match.   We also reduced the match fee to $5 per run from $10, again reducing the match costs.  Most of us took several runs but burned less ammo.  It worked out fine and we all had a good match.

Money Shoot Match Results
The Money Shoot match works like this...
Everyone puts a dollar in the hat, We set up one steel plate at about 12 yards and give it a fresh coat of paint.  When your name is called you come to the line and load and get ready.  At the start signal, hit the one plate five times as fast as you can.   The shooter with the fastest time wins the money in the hat.  Anyone can win. Master class shooters have to push it to be competitive an often miss, have trigger finger lock or just plain screw the pooch.  Several Expert shooters have won in the past.   Novice guys need the experiance and get better with each match.
