FOP Range Class 3 Info

We have had to make a few reasonable changes in the way Class 3 firearms are used at the facility.  The changes are necessary to ensure the facility is operated with safety as the primary concern. 

• Class 3 weapons may not be used on the public range.  The public range is often a busy place with a dozen or so shooters enjoying it.  We have had complaints in the past about the brass ejected in copious quantities raining on others trying to enjoy the range.  Several years ago we addressed this by making Class 3 use on the range a members only event.  Full auto Class 3 guns are only to be used on the member's part of the facility.
• Class 3 full auto guns are only allowed to be fired under the direct supervision of a Range Officer (RO).  Using Class 3 here will require a little planning on your part.  Call the range to contact a Range Officer.  Make an appointment to meet with the RO at the range.  He will be on hand to help you should you need assistance.  His primary responsibility will be to ensure that the full auto guns are fired in the safest manner possible.  No rounds will be fired at anything except targets placed at the center of the berm on the range.  The RO's fee is $30 an hour with a two hour minimum session. 
• No bump fire allowed.  Bump firing is defined as a method of manipulating a firearm to obtain a faster rate of fire by holding the receiver loosely, allowing recoil to assist with trigger manipulation.  Devices are available that assist with this manipulation.  It is our experience that accurate fire is impossible when bump firing a weapon.  We already have a rule in place that prohibits unaimed fire on any of the ranges.  Individuals caught bump firing will have their day at the range ended.  Members who are observed bump firing may have their membership suspended or terminated.
